Fortified Wine

Lustau Amontillado Sherry

Lustau Amontillado Sherry is a type of sherry wine produced by the Spanish winery Bodegas Lustau. Sherry is a fortified wine that is produced in the Sherry Triangle in southwestern Spain, which includes the towns of Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and El Puerto de Santa María.

Amontillado sherry is a type of sherry that is made by aging fino sherry for a longer period of time, which causes the flor yeast to die off and the wine to oxidize. This results in a sherry that is darker in color, nutty in flavor, and has a more complex aroma than fino sherry.

Lustau Amontillado Sherry is known for its smooth and rich flavors, which include notes of hazelnut, dried fruit, and oak. It is a versatile wine that can be enjoyed as an aperitif or paired with a wide variety of foods, including cheese, nuts, cured meats, and seafood.

History

Bodegas Lustau, the producer of Lustau Amontillado Sherry, has a long and rich history that dates back to 1896. At that time, the company was founded by Don José Ruiz-Berdejo, who began producing and exporting sherry wines from his own vineyards.

Over the years, Lustau has grown and evolved, becoming one of the most respected and innovative producers of sherry wines in Spain. One of the key figures in the modern history of the winery was Manuel Lozano, who joined Lustau in 1981 as a winemaker and went on to become the cellar master and head winemaker.

Under Lozano’s guidance, Lustau became known for its high-quality, handcrafted sherry wines, including its Amontillado. The company’s commitment to traditional winemaking methods, combined with a willingness to experiment and innovate, helped it to earn a reputation as one of the leading sherry producers in the world.

Today, Lustau Amontillado Sherry is produced using a combination of traditional and modern winemaking techniques. The wine is aged for an average of 12 years in oak barrels, which gives it its distinctive nutty flavor and complex aroma. Lustau Amontillado Sherry is now enjoyed by wine lovers around the world and is considered one of the finest examples of this style of sherry.

ABV

The Lustau Amontillado Sherry has an alcohol by volume (abv) of around 17.5%. This is a type of sherry that has undergone both oxidative and biological aging, resulting in a unique flavor profile that combines the nutty and savory notes of an Oloroso with the lighter, more delicate qualities of a Fino. It is a versatile wine that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with a variety of foods, including cheese, nuts, and cured meats.
