Does tequila and mezcal make an awesome Old Fashioned variation. Phil Ward thought so when he made the Oaxaca Old Fashioned Cocktail. We are going back in time to the creation of a modern classic. Now in 2007 in sunny, New York. There was this guy who owned a bar. His name was David Kaplan. And in this bar worked a guy named Phil Ward. He worked behind the bar, AKA the bartender.
Now Phil ward had an aha moment. And this aha moment was let us combine tequila and mezcal as a base spirit. You know what it really worked because he created the Oaxaca Old Fashioned and the bar that I am talking about is called the dead rabbit. And by the way, I love the name of that bar. It speaks to me on so many levels of morbidity that.
Oh, it is just so me. I wished that I would get a chance to get down there and look at that one of these days. However, uh, my brain is, uh, going in reverse now, but I do know it is time that we make the cocktail. Now, this cocktail is, will haka old fashioned became an instant classic, so we are going to make it.



  • Add all ingredients to the mixing glass.
    1.5 oz Repasado Tequila, .5 oz Mezcal, 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters, 1 tsp Agave Syrup
  • Stir with ice for 30-60 seconds seconds or until properly diluted.
  • Add fresh ice to glass and double strain cocktail into glass.
  • Garnish with a flamed Orange Peel.
