Whiskey & Coke
The Whiskey and Coke can be found in print in 1907 due to a study commissioned by the United States Bureau of Chemistry. To gather information on Coca-Cola, a popular but pharmaceutically problematic beverage, the United States Bureau of Chemistry sent Dr. Lyman Kebler, the director of its drug laboratory, to the South. One of Dr. Kebler’s discoveries was that Coca-Cola was popular with kids and “brain workers.” So Dr. Lyman involved the owner of a soda shop close to a military base who “frequently served Coca-Cola to soldiers who mixed the same with whiskey and in this way produced what became a Coca-Cola high-ball.” According to the proprietor, the combination made “the soldiers wild and crazy.” Try it out and let me know what you think of the Whiskey and Coke.
